It's said to be the oldest documented residential building still standing in Melbourne's inner-city suburb of Fitzroy. But almost 175 years after Osborne House was built, its 60 or so rooms are vacant, the windows are boarded up, and a barbed wire fence wraps around the front facade. The Regency style home, built in the 1850s, once housed a wealthy pastoralist, and has also been home to a Victorian premier. In 1887 it underwent significant works, with a vision to transform it into a boarding house.
