Madison Manning, a junior musical theater major, stepped into an iconic pair of shoes for her lead role in “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella,” co-produced by Syracuse Stage and the Department of Drama in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Manning plays Cinderella in the production that runs through Jan. 5 in the Archbold Theatre at Syracuse Stage.

Witnessing a helmet-to-helmet collision sparked an concept for School of Design alumnus Bert Straus ’59, setting off a sequence of evolutions in headwear and protecting sports activities gear. Straus remembers watching the collision throughout a televised sports activities recreation. A picture of an enormous pillow inserted on the helmet’s level of contact sprung into his thoughts. The designer started sketching the idea, masking the helmet’s outer floor with a urethane foam shell.

A composer-organist pair of graduate students in the College of Visual and Performing Arts’ Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music received a $1,000 grant from the American Guild of Organists (AGO) to compose and perform a new piece for organ. Composer Ryan McQuay Meredith and organist Joseph Maxwell Ossei-Little were among four pairs selected for the grant from the AGO’s Student Commissioning Project this year.
