Guildford Cathedral has said its decision to host a disco fitted in with its vision of being "open to all". Tickets for the 90s-themed silent discos on 17 February and 24 February are sold out. A cathedral spokesperson said the events would generate extra funding and not disrupt its services program. Guildford is listed on a petition that calls on Anglican Deans to "stop turning our great cathedrals into nightclubs". Started by Cajetan Skowronski, the petition has garnered nearly 2000 signatures.

About 50,000 rural properties in Kent will benefit from "lightning fast" broadband as part of a national £5bn project, the government has said. Cityfibre has won a £112m contract to provide the fastest available broadband as part of a government rollout. It will target homes and businesses in rural areas, including around Ashford, Canterbury, Medway and Sheppey. Ministers said the project would give households access to speeds of 1,000Mbps, or megabits per second.
