Athletes who jump from participating in a sport to commentating about it on television sometimes find a bumpy road. Kevin Harvick, analyst for NASCAR races on Fox Sports, benefited from a long runway. During his final nine seasons in a driving career that ended in 2023, Harvick moonlighted on television, serving as an analyst on Xfinity Series broadcasts.

The NASCAR Alumni program was started a year ago with the idea of giving former drivers, crew chiefs and team owners a path to remain in or return to the sport. The major benefit of NASCAR Alumni membership is a coveted “hard card.” The Hard Card is an annual credential that allows members access to the garage area at any NASCAR national series event. Want in? No way, dude. Teams saved fuel like there might suddenly be a shortage.
