NEWPORT–Wednesday afternoon found the North Country Falcons and the Middlebury Tigers on the courts at Prouty Beach for a little Division I tennis action. It would be a tough day for the Falcons, as Middlebury brought their A game and were able to come away with a 5-2 win. “Well played by everyone. Tight matches and really fun to watch,” said Falcons coach Suzy Bluett. Both of the Falcons’ wins came in the singles matches.

Dr. Richard Pearson says crime was down two percent last year, but his goal is an even bigger drop in 2025. 2024 saw fewer reports of robbery, sex crimes, and burglary…and no homicides. But there were higher numbers of assault, arson, and larceny. Pearson points to new initiatives which started last year that he says will reduce crime in Joplin.

NEWPORT–The North Country Falcons welcomed in nine other schools to their campus on Tuesday for their first of two full-team meets this season. The Falcons had already hosted their freshmen-only meet last month, and this time around, athletes from Lake Region, Richford, Lyndon Institute, Enosburg, Oxbow, Randolph, Craftsbury, Danville, and Paine Mountain (Northfield/Williamstown), were all in action. The host Falcons took home first place on both the boys (158 pts.) and girls (180 pts.) sides.

NEWPORT–The North Country tennis Falcons were back on the courts at Prouty Beach on Monday afternoon, as they were paid a visit by the Harwood Highlanders. It would be a back and forth kind of day, with one team winning a match, then the other following suit. In the end it would be Harwood coming away with a very tight 4-3 win in this one. “Great play again today, so close, every court, so fun to watch,” said Falcons coach Suzy Bluett.
