NEWPORT–It will definitely be a Thanksgiving to remember for one local member of the Northeast Kingdom Allstar Cheerleading team this November. Incoming North Country freshman Illianna Bruno auditioned for, and was accepted to, participate in the 99th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City as part of the Spirit of America’s production.

NEWPORT–A sextet of North Country baseball players were recognized by the Capital League coaches for their play in the 2025 season. Ben West, Kaden Jones, Logan Cross, Hunter Wells, Luis Sanchez, and Tristan LeBlanc were this year’s honorees. Pitcher/infielder Ben West and infielder/outfielder Kaden Jones were selected to the All-Capital First Team. Pitcher/infielder Logan Cross and infielder/outfielder Hunter Wells were All-Capital Second Team Selections.

JOPLIN, Mo. — It was a busy Wednesday at the “Boys and Girls Club” in Joplin. State Representative Lane Roberts stopped by Wednesday morning for his latest tour of the facility. Board members got to talk to him about the continued funding and support needed from both the state and federal levels. As for the kids, Roberts also got to check this out, they had a special visit from representatives with Best Buy’s Geek Squad Academy.

DERBY–In what was billed as a battle of 14-U baseball players from the North Country Falcons and the Lake Region Mountaineers, turned out to be a collection of ball players ranging in age brackets from 12-U to 16-U, with the Mountaineers bringing the older team to the game. The game would be played in the unrelenting heat, that despite the later hours of the day, was still going strong.

WEBB CITY, Mo. — Educational excellence is recognized and awarded in Webb City. This year’s Regional Teacher of the Year Awards Luncheon was held on Tuesday at the Southwest Center for Educational Excellence. Thirteen nominees opted to apply for the competition. A committee made up of area district educators and community members then had to select what were actually two winners. One each on the elementary and secondary education levels.
