ORLEANS–It will be a different looking Lake Region Lady Rangers softball team head coach Tim Plastridge will field this season. Six members of last year’s team, including multiple key starters, have moved on, and this year the Lady Rangers are welcoming in eight new players, all juniors, to the team. “While we lost players from graduation that combined consistent hitting, defense, and base running, I am excited for our returning players to have their moment,” said Plastridge.

DERBY- Marty Barrup (Vermont Rifle and Pistol Association) and John Jewell’s (Kingdom Firearms) collaborative efforts led to a gun show hosted at the Elk’s Club in Derby. It’s the first time in recent memory the area hosted a gun show; there are popular gun shows in Essex and Barre. A total of 43 tables were rented, and five other tables were donated. The donated tables are for non-profits, such as the National Guard, and Lake Region’s baseball team.

Last year pickleball courts, tennis courts, and a basketball court were built on a higher elevation in the park.

NEWPORT–A relatively warm and partially sunny afternoon at the Prouty Beach tennis courts was the setting for the North Country tennis Falcons to play their season opener against the Montpelier Solons. The Falcons are returning several players this season, but a lot of them are on the younger side, and the younger players are now stepping to fill the roles vacated by last year’s seniors.
