NEWPORT–It will definitely be a Thanksgiving to remember for one local member of the Northeast Kingdom Allstar Cheerleading team this November. Incoming North Country freshman Illianna Bruno auditioned for, and was accepted to, participate in the 99th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City as part of the Spirit of America’s production.

BROWNINGTON- As travelers rely more on GPS for directions, incidents of getting lost, or stuck on a road to nowhere continue to increase. Travelers are directed to Class 4 roads and town trails… and the results aren’t good. There’s been several such incidents on Wildwood Lane in Brownington, according to Armand Brunelle. He reported three recent incidents to the Brownington Selectboard on Wednesday. “Three vehicles have gotten stuck; they can’t get through with a car,” Brunelle said.

BARTON VILLAGE- The Barton Village Trustees are grappling with a number of infrastructure projects, ranging from constructing a new salt/sand shed, site testing a brownfield where the former Village garage was located, and a water quality issue. The former town garage on High Street is a brownfield. There are elevated levels of PCBs and more testing is required.

NEWPORT–A sextet of North Country baseball players were recognized by the Capital League coaches for their play in the 2025 season. Ben West, Kaden Jones, Logan Cross, Hunter Wells, Luis Sanchez, and Tristan LeBlanc were this year’s honorees. Pitcher/infielder Ben West and infielder/outfielder Kaden Jones were selected to the All-Capital First Team. Pitcher/infielder Logan Cross and infielder/outfielder Hunter Wells were All-Capital Second Team Selections.

DERBY–In what was billed as a battle of 14-U baseball players from the North Country Falcons and the Lake Region Mountaineers, turned out to be a collection of ball players ranging in age brackets from 12-U to 16-U, with the Mountaineers bringing the older team to the game. The game would be played in the unrelenting heat, that despite the later hours of the day, was still going strong.
