A Northside building that in recent years has been used for making beer will soon house a very different kind of manufacturing. The owners of Anytime Beer Co. earlier this month sold the brewery’s building at 704 Dawn St. to Ralco Medical Components Inc. for $1 million. Anytime, formerly known as Tabol Brewing, ceased operations in the 7,900-square-foot building this spring ahead of the building’s sale, while the brewery’s owners search for a new place to continue operating.

One of Shockoe Slip’s longest-running restaurants has quietly closed its doors. Sam Miller’s at 1210 E. Cary St. recently ceased operations after 53 years in business. Throughout the spring the oyster bar and restaurant was open sporadically, at one point posting signage on its front door that it was closed “due to circumstances beyond our control.” The closure became permanent in recent weeks. Sam Miller’s was owned by Ken Wall, who couldn’t be reached for comment.

Varina-based Godsey Properties in recent weeks purchased the 2-acre city block at 301 Maury St. for $4.5 million in a deal that included approved plans for 70 two-over-two townhouse-style condos. The seller was Charlottesville-based NewCastle Development Group, which had initiated planning of the project around two years ago.

The city’s Sauer’s Gardens area is set to get some new residential infill development. A four-story apartment building is in the works for 3925 Cutshaw Ave., according to city planning documents. Local real estate agents and investors Joseph Lawson and Cabell Childress are behind the project, which would rise on a grassy area adjacent to a two-story apartment building at 3917 Cutshaw Ave. that Lawson and Childress bought in 2023 for $3.1 million.
