Don Cusick is living a race fan's retirement dream. A wannabe racer at heart, Cusick has found a second act in retirement. He sold his business and moved to Thermal Club in California, where he drives his track cars on a beautiful IndyCar-sanctioned road circuit. He's also the owner of Cusick Motorsports—a team that has fielded single-car entries in each of the past four Indianapolis 500s. Now, Cusick would like to take his post-retirement IndyCar involvement to another level.

Julie Nataas, the 2023 NHRA Top Dragster champion, is getting a shot at Nitro Funny Car. Nataas, a 28-year-old Norwegian-born racer, is slated to make her Funny Car debut at the Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol, Tenn., this weekend, in a Toyota GR Supra for DC Motorsports. DC Motorsports is owned by 2011 NHRA Top Fuel champion Del Worsham and Connie Worsham. Nataas earned her Funny Car license in May following three months of testing. She also has an NHRA Top Fuel license.

Don't look now, but the 2025 NTT IndyCar Series championship just got a little more interesting. Not a lot, mind you, but at least a little. Kyle Kirkwood, the only IndyCar Series driver other than Indy 500 winner Alex Palou to win a race this season, scored his second win in seven races when he pulled away following a late restart to cruise to victory in the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear on Sunday on the Streets of Detroit.

No one said there wouldn't be a little traffic and a few drivers going over the speed limit in downtown Detroit over the weekend. On Sunday morning—two hours before the start of the NTT IndyCar Series Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix—the Indy NXT Series took to the nine-turn, 1.6-mile layout for a 45-lap race of up-an-coming IndyCar stars. Let's just say this one got off to a chaotic start, as at least nine cars were caught up in a turn 4 incident on the opening lap.
