The County collected $7.2 million in oil and gas tax revenue collections in May based on business activity conducted by oil and gas operators in February, said Eddy County Finance Director Breanna Shields.

Eddy County’s Board of County Commissioners canceled a bid to tear down the building, which has not had any use for several years. Built in 1947, the building has been a source of pride for residents of Otis, which is between Carlsbad and Loving. In 2019, commissioners voted to “decommission” the gym.

A new era started Monday for the Carlsbad Cavegirls volleyball program as new head coach Taylor Hardison opened with the first summer practice of 2024. Hardison, a graduate of Hobbs High School and University of the Southwest (USW) in Hobbs, replaces Danelle Morrill who stepped down after last season. Last year the Cavegirls had an overall record of 6-16 and were winless in District 5-4A at 0-6.
