HOOD RIVER — The Hood River Valley High (HRV) Eagles’ quartet of seniors Judah Caudill, Kendall Sales, Jena Hager and Poppy Mooney capped successful seasons – and their prep tennis careers - by competing in the OSAA Class 5A state tournament May 23-24. Caudill won a May 23 boys singles first round match 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 over Rikuya Kasai of Springfield.

THE GORGE — The Hood River Valley High (HRV) Eagle boys golf team capped a successful season by having three players compete in the OSAA Class 5A state tournament May 19-20 at OGA Golf Course in Woodburn. The Eagles’ three-member squad included senior John Olsen and the freshman duo of Aksel Betz and David Shepherd. Olsen and Betz earned top-20 finishes out of the 62-player field. The Eagles didn’t have the standard four-player team score because they had three players who qualified individually.

WHITE SALMON — The undefeated and No. 3-ranked Trico League/District 4 Champion Columbia High School (CHS) Bruins will play in the WIAA Class 1A boys soccer semifinals on May 30 at Federal Way Memorial Stadium following two state playoff home wins last week. The Bruins will be seeking to advance to their first state title game since 2009, which was the last year that they won the championship. The Bruins play the No. 17-ranked Bush High Blazers (12-5-0) in a 1 p.m. Friday semifinal.

THE DALLES — The defending OSAA Class 4A Tri-Valley Conference (TVC) champion The Dalles High Riverhawks were on the verge of capturing a second consecutive league baseball title this past week but lost two of three games and finished second. The Riverhawks did clinch a state playoff berth for a third consecutive year, however, and they’ll play a first round game on May 27 against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.

WHITE SALMON — The Columbia High Bruins finished a successful WIAA Class 1A softball season by advancing to the District 4 playoffs May 14-17 in Centralia after finishing second place in the Trico League. The Bruins (10-4 Trico, 10-8 overall) won their final two Trico games over the Stevenson High Bulldogs (6-8 Trico, 9-10 overall) to give them second place in the eight-team league standings behind Seton Catholic (14-0 Trico, 18-3).
