The win caps off an amazing season for Saline with a final record of 39-3-2. The Hornets got things rolling in the top of the first when Casey Griffin led off the game with a single. Sydney Hastings followed with a single and with two outs Gracie Walrdop singled to center to score Griffin for a 1-0 lead.

    Photos from Saline AthleticsThe top-ranked Saline girls’ soccer team moved one step closer to a chance at a D1 state title after a pair of impressive wins to claim the regional title last week. The Hornets outscored its two opponents 12-0 on their way to the regional trophy. Saline opened the week by rolling to an 8-0 win over Grosse Pointe South. Sienna Snyder found the net five minutes into the first half to give Saline an early 1-0 lead.

    Photo from Saline AthleticsThe third time was a charm for the Saline softball team, after claiming Saline’s first regional title since 2013 with a 9-3 win over SEC Red rival Bedford Saturday. The Hornets had come up short in their regional title bids the past two seasons but they came through with the trophy Saturday and advance to the state quarterfinals Tuesday to face Woodhaven at Ypsilanti Lincoln at 4:00. Woodhaven ended the Hornets season in the D1 regionals in 2023.

    Chelsea’s Brian Tillman capped off a history making career in a big way by winning the Division 2 individual golf state title Saturday at Bedford Valley Golf Course in Battle Creek. Tillman shots a two-day total of 139 to finish five-under par to claim the title by one stroke over Cooper Reitsma of Grand Rapids Christian. The 139 was 19 strokes better than his individual performance as a junior where he shot 158 and finished 42nd.

    The Chelsea girls’ water polo team continues to roll through its record setting season after earnings the Bulldogs best finish ever at the East Regionals at Ann Arbor Skyline this weekend. The Bulldogs finished regional runner-up for the first time in team history and will be seeded second at the state finals in East Lansing this weekend. Chelsea will take on West Region third-seed Jenison in the quarterfinals Friday night at 5:15.
