William will travel to the Vatican ahead of the procession and ceremony for the pontiff on Saturday. Catholics around the world have been mourning Pope Francis, after he passed away on Monday morning, following weeks of intensive care in hospital. King Charles and Queen Camilla had met the Pope just 12 days before he died, during a state visit to the Vatican.

A POPULAR bar is set to close after 10 years of trading, with its heartbroken owner blaming "unsustainable" rising costs. The retro venue in Newcastle city centre, inspired by speakeasies and cabaret bars of 1920s prohibition America, will shut its doors for the final time in just months. Prohibition was first built in a converted railway arch in neighbouring Gateshead in 2015, attracting large numbers of followers for its classic feel.

A MAJOR car brand has issued a number of recalls for nearly 150,000 motors, including one urgent warning to some motorists over a fire risk. Ford has alerted customers who own a number of its vehicles over issues which could increase the risk of a crash or of an electrical fire. Affecting potentially 123,611 motorists, the largest of Ford's recalls is for the potential loss of brake function due to leaking brake fluid.

A POPULAR medieval English castle has shut in a "massive blow" for locals and businesses in a market town. English Heritage announced Prudhoe Castle in Northumberland had closed over the weekend as operational updates take place. However, no date has yet been set for when the Norman fortress will re-open, sparking concerns the closure will have a "very negative impact" on the local economy.

A MAJOR train station used by almost 10,000 people every day is set to close for a month as part of a £70 million revamp. No trains will run through or stop at Huddersfield station in West Yorkshire between August 30 and September 29, according to Network Rail. The works are set to spark travel chaos for the roughly 300,000 travellers who use the station each month. After the closure, just three of the six current platforms will reopen on a temporary basis.
