Carolina Ascent midfielder Jill Aguilera and goalkeeper Meagan McClelland each made history, winning inaugural awards for the 2024-25 USL Super League season. McClelland brought home the Golden Glove award after posting a 0.97 goals-against average in 18 appearances for Carolina. She finished the season with 41 saves and a 70.2% save percentage. Aguilera earned the Golden Playmaker award for recording seven assists and two goals.

“Lilo & Stich” and “Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning” dominated the box office charts again after fueling a record-breaking Memorial Day weekend. Theaters in the U.S. and Canada had several new films to offer this weekend as well, including Sony’s family friendly “Karate Kid: Legends” and the A24 horror movie “Bring Her Back. ” According to studio estimates Sunday, it added up to a robust $149 million post-holiday weekend that’s up over 120% from the same timeframe last year.

PARIS (AP) — Tommy Paul became the first American man in the French Open quarterfinals since Andre Agassi in 2003, beating 25th-seeded Alexei Popyrin of Australia 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 in less than two hours Sunday. The 28-year-old Paul, who is seeded 12th at Roland-Garros, was coming off consecutive five-set victories but breezed to this victory, helped by saving 9 of 10 break points he faced while coverting all but one of the six he accumulated.

TROUTMAN, N.C. – One person died and three others were injured in a three-car collision in Iredell County on Saturday night, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. It happened around 10:20 p.m. on I-77 North near mile marker 43. Troopers said a Hyundai Santa Cruz and a Dodge Caravan were partially stopped in the left lane due to a previous collision.
