Isaac Chase Rahman, the Chair of Student Council, resigned at the start of Student Council’s week 7 meeting in an unprecedented move. He cited a “disregard for democratic principles”, saying that the “events preceding the meeting have been wholly undemocratic.”The Oxford Student understands that two motions of no confidence, in Alfie Davis, sabbatical officer elect for VP Welfare, and in Danial Hussain, the current SU President, were blocked by the SU Trustee Board due to institutional concerns.

Isaac Chase Rahman, the Chair of Student Council, resigned at the start of Student Council’s week 7 meeting in an unprecedented move. The Returning Officer, Joe Bell, also resigned separately. In the remainder of the meeting, heated questions were asked of the SU sabbatical officers and Trustee Board, with two votes on holding no confidence motions against Danial Hussain and the rest of the sabbatical officers now being held online.

University College JCR has passed a motion of “No Confidence and Condemnation” in the SU Welfare VP-Elect, Alfie Davis. Davis came under fire after it was reported that he was part of a secret slate set-up to organise endorsements across various SU campaigns.

SU President Danial Hussain has today returned to the role after a four month long investigation, while the former SU CEO left his role last week.  Hussain was being investigated for an alleged incident that occurred when he shared porn with SU staff. Hussain denied the allegations and insisted that while he had shared the Google Drive which contained the video, he was not aware of its presence. He told The Oxford Student that it had been placed there by friends as a prank.

A Balliol student was arrested on Saturday on Cornmarket Street on suspicion of aggravated trespass. A protest took place at the Barclays branch on Cornmarket Street on Saturday morning, in which a number of protestors entered Barclays. Thames Valley Police told The Oxford Student, “At around 11.30am on Saturday (10/2) Thames Valley Police were called to a protest in Barclays on Cornmarket Street.”“Protestors had entered the bank and were asked by officers to leave.

Why on earth is our only proper hub airport dependent on one substation? Concerning to think about the security implications of this, and what it means for other critical infrastructure around the UK. Hopefully something that might be fixed when building a third runway?
