On Friday, May 23, thousands of NRM party delegates from the Oyam district gathered to elect new party leaders. Bosco Onyik Ogwal was elected the Oyam district NRM chairperson, defeating Patrick Ogwal Ojok and Engola Junior in a hotly contested election marked by emotion and rejection. Onyik got 271 votes, while Engola got 192. He promptly rejected the results, blaming his defeat, among other things, on Willie Omodo Omodo.

Oyam | Jane Frances Acilo continued her community empowerment initiative on Friday, making major stops in Iceme sub-county, Oyam district. Acilo, who is expected to be elected the NRM party flag bearer for Oyam district woman MP ahead of the 2026 general elections, met with hundreds of Iceme residents, including farmers. Eradicating poverty in the district, both now and during her tenure as a woman MP, is one of her many goals. Commercial agriculture is high on her agenda.

Since 2021, TESI has been organizing the career guidance fair annually, and unlike previous events, this year’s fair shall be an in-person event.

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) stated that it is in their and the public’s interest to “demand the long-awaited report on what transpired in the Bukedea by-election in 2023.”Stephen Omagor, an aspirant for Bukedea district LC5 chairperson, was assaulted on June 6, 2023, amid earlier allegations of electoral violence and human rights violations. The Electoral Commission condemned the act in a statement released on June 8.

Oyam | On March 27, hundreds, if not thousands, of women marched through Kamdini town council to commemorate belated International Women’s Day. The procession ended at the Kamdini Primary School playground, where a large crowd gathered. Several leaders attended the Day’s event, including Oyam district LC5 chairperson Dilla Benson Oyuku and Santa Alum Ogwang, an Oyam district woman MP.
