AbstractTetracyclines are essential bacterial protein synthesis inhibitors under continual development to combat antibiotic resistance yet suffer from unwanted side effects. Mitoribosomes - responsible for generating oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) subunits - share structural similarities with bacterial machinery and may suffer from cross-reactivity.
