Ramel Pierre was found dead in his bedroom at his Florida home on Bedford Drive on Friday. Detectives performed a welfare check after his school reported he hadn't been seen for two weeks.     An eight-year-old girl is fighting for life after being struck by a car in Sydney's north. The incident occurred on Sommerville Road in Hornsby Heights just after 10.40am today. Police said the young girl was found unconscious on the road after she was hit by a Holden SUV. She was treated at the scene and rushed to the Children's Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition. The driver of the SUV was uninjured and taken to Hornsby Hospital for mandatory testing.

    Three men are on the run this morning after allegedly storming a home armed with machetes in Sydney's eastern suburbs overnight. Police were called to Curlewis Street at Bondi Beach about 1.20am following reports of a home invasion. Officers were told three men allegedly armed with machetes had forced their way into the home via the front door and threatened the occupants – two women aged 38 and 26 along with a 28-year-old man. No one was seriously injured.

The measure was enforced at a store in Fairfax County, Virginia after a spike in violence.     Peter Dutton has lost the Brisbane seat of Dickson after a stunning election defeat by Labor's Ali France. In her third run at Dickson, a seat that has been held by Dutton for 24 years, France became the first person in Australian history to oust an opposition leader from their own seat. Dutton said after calling the prime minister he then called France to congratulate her.
