Boone County Jail overcrowding costs climb amid Department of Mental Health backlog Boone County is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to house inmates in jails across Mid-Missouri, as local officials continue to struggle with overcrowding and a growing backlog of detainees awaiting mental health evaluations. From Jan.-10May 23, the county had spent $461,235 to house detainees in other counties, according to Capt. Brian Leer of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

When news broke that both Tim Elko and Andrew Vaughn were being sent to Triple-A Charlotte by the White Sox, it came as a bit of a surprise. Elko had nothing left to prove in Triple-A and had only appeared in ten MLB games before getting demoted. While he hit just .161, he also tallied three homers and owned a .452 slugging percentage before the demotion. Despite the setback, Elko maintained a positive attitude.

Columbia begins enforcing new short-term rental rules Just four days after short-term rentals in Columbia had to start complying with an ordinance put into place earlier this year, the Planning and Zoning Commission is set to hold five public hearings on short-term rental applications. Under the ordinance, short-term rental owners must obtain a business license and a certificate of compliance.

The Chicago White Sox have announced a forthcoming change in ownership, with billionaire private equity investor Justin Ishbia positioned to take control of the team sometime between 2029 and 2034. In a press release issued Tuesday, the White Sox revealed that current owner Jerry Reinsdorf and Ishbia have reached a long-term investment agreement, laying the groundwork for Ishbia to assume majority ownership of the franchise eventually.
