The New School Students For Justice in Palestine (TNS SJP), have continued their Gaza Solidarity Encampment and are currently facing threats of suspension due to the ongoing activity in the University Center lobby. TNS SJP also stated that the university officially terminated negotiation meetings with Mark Diaz, the executive vice president for Business Operations, that were planned for yesterday.

Yesterday, at 4:00 p.m., The New School’s Students for Justice in Palestine’s (TNS SJP) Gaza Solidarity Encampment gathered in the University Center lobby for a cello performance by part-time faculty member Ethan Philbrick. The Eugene Lang lecturer has taught courses such as “Art and Popular Education” and “Performing Queer History.”Philbrick performed “The unofficial national anthem of Palestine” titled “Mawṭinī,” written by Palestinian poet Ibrahim Tuqan, as well as an improvisational piece.

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit northern New Jersey and shook New York City around 10:20 a.m. today, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Tremors were reportedly felt in the majority of the Tri-State area, as far as Boston and Baltimore. Its epicenter was 2 miles from Tewskbury, New Jersey, nearly 50 miles west of New York City.

Today is the 28th birthday of Gnarls Narwhal, The New School’s mascot, and their 10th anniversary at the university. Gnarls has represented TNS as their “sea mammal-in-residence” since 2014. The university introduced the mascot to act as “an advocate for students and all of their scholarly and extracurricular activities, an attendee at political protests, and ambassador for oceanic lifeforms,” according to their website.
