After years and years of driving my 2006 Ford hatchback, my husband, Vaughn, and I decided it was time for a newer car. But for a while, I still drove like I was in the old one. I’d forget to use the new backup camera and still worry about making it up particularly steep hills. I’d even look for my old car in the parking lot. I was forgetting that that car wasn’t a part of my life anymore. Have you forgotten that your old ways are no longer a part of you?

To my BRIGHT-FM family,Have I ever told you that you are one of my loftiest dreams come true and biggest prayers answered? As a kid jamming along to WRBS—and then SHINE-FM—in the back of my parents’ red minivan, I never would have imagined that I would be one of the DJs I heard in between the songs. Even once I got older and decided I wanted to pursue a career in broadcasting, I hardly dared to picture a future that would include being on the Afternoon Show. But I hoped for it.

What are the words that you believe are being spoken over you? Are they encouraging, or do you feel knocked down by what they’re saying? And who’s saying them? Are you listening to the voices of friends, parents, teachers, a boss? Maybe your inner voice or even the voice of the enemy? There are a lot of voices that we could turn to that would tell us exactly what they think about us, good or bad. But what if, more than any of them, we listened to what God says about us through Jesus?
