Church bankruptcy: Court grants hearing for abuse survivors in Vermont

A hearing has been scheduled for abuse survivors to deliver victim impact statements against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington, Vermont. It's the second of two hearings scheduled by a bankruptcy judge after the diocese filed for Chapter 11 back in October 2024. The latest court records were filed on Monday. According to the Diocese, 118 additional survivors have come forward with claims of abuse as of April 4.

Olympic runner and Richford, Vermont, native Elle St. Pierre has announced the birth of her second child. St. Pierre posted the news on social media on Mother's Day. "Harvey Mark St. Pierre our newest little love was born on 5/6/25," St. Pierre wrote. "We are all just over the moon to have brought home another healthy baby boy."St. Pierre gave birth to her first son, Ivan in 2023. Less than a year later, she broke her own American record for the women's mile at the Millrose Games.

Pediatric flu deaths hit new high in New York, health officials say

The New York State Department of Health has reported a record number of pediatric deaths from the 2024-2025 influenza season. According to Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald, 25 influenza-related pediatric deaths were reported this season — the highest recorded amount ever in New York. Across the country, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has also reported 216 pediatric deaths this flu season, which McDonald said was the highest number in 15 years.

The project limits include a 0.7-mile segment of Route 2A in Williston, from Meadowrun Road to River Cove Road, including its intersection with Industrial Avenue. 'Medical aid in dying' moves forward in New York

The New York State Assembly has passed a bill that would grant the use of medication for a terminally ill patient to choose when to end their life. The 'Medical Aid in Dying Act' was introduced in January of 2025, but it wasn't the first time the measure was brought to the legislature. The bill would allow adult residents with terminal illnesses to legally obtain a prescription from a doctor for medication to end their life. It was first introduced in 2016, but never made it out of committee.
Complaint against all resident voting goes to Vermont Supreme Court

The charter allows residents in Burlington to vote in local elections, regardless of citizenship status. In 2024, the group 'Restoring Integrity and Trust in Elections' (RITE) filed a lawsuit, challenging the policy.
