    Elementary school students from Williams Lake and area ran through the forest encountering mud and puddles on Monday, May 12. The annual Mud Run, hosted by Mountview Elementary School, attracted athletes from Mountview, Cataline, Marie Sharpe, 150 Mile, Distance Ed, Chilcotin Road and Nesika schools. As the students approached the finish line, many parents and supporters were there to greet them. The majority of the students were very muddy, fulfilling the sentiments of the event.

    Anticipation is building for this year's Lakers Car Club Show and Shine and Spring Roundup, taking place May 24 and 25. The Spring Round up Poker Run will start from the Tourism Discovery Centre beginning at noon Saturday, May 24, and going until 3 p.m, with $600 in cash prizes for entrants joining in the poker run. There will also be free coffee and donuts. The popular cruise through Williams Lake starts at 4 p.m. from the TDC and ends at Signal Point (Chances).

    Members of the Williams Lake Filipino community and Esk'etemc hosted a prayer vigil Saturday, May 10 to acknowledge the recent tragedy at the Lapu-Lapu Festival in Vancouver where 11 people died when a person drove into the crowd. In Williams Lake, people gathered at the A&W parking lot at 3 p.m. for prayers, singing, drumming and exchange of condolences.

How often do we put up a brave face when asked how we are doing when actually beneath the surface we may be struggling personally. The Governor General Of Canada, Mary Simon, said the theme reminds us of how important it is to have open and honest conversations about mental well-being.

    Jayne D'Entremont of Barriere recently went from having lots of hair to none to show solidarity for her sister who is battling breast cancer. Her sister, Candace Piccin, lives in Pincher Creek, Alta. with her husband and two children and was diagnosed at the end of December 2024. “She started treatments in January - she goes to Lethbridge,” D’Entremont said, adding the treatments are going well.
