    As I write this in late February, it is snowing in central North Carolina for the second time in two days; it’s the third round of snow we’ve had this winter, which is already significant, but this time it’s really sticking given how cold it is.     A recent Gallup poll reveals that a mere 4% of Hispanic and Latino Americans use the fake term "Latinx." Interestingly, a significant portion, 15%, prefer to be identified as "Latino" or "Latina," while 23% favor the term "Hispanic." Another separate survey conducted by Bendixen & Amandi International, a Democratic firm, found that only 2% of respondents like the term, and 40% find it offensive.

    It is vitally important for the stories of LGBTQ people and their families to be told in Spanish-Language media, which plays a key role in the lives of the more than 60 million Latines in the United States. To help ensure those stories are told, particularly by transgender and nonbinary Latines, the GLAAD Media Institute’s Spanish-Language & Latine Media & Representation team partnered with the Trans Wellness Center for a first-of-its kind event at the Los Angeles LGBT Center in March.
