Sherman named C-USA Athlete of WeekSHERMANFormer La Vergne track star and MTSU sophomore John Sherman was named Conference USA after his performance at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Sherman took the 100- and 200- meter races with personal best times of 10.21 and 20.50 seconds, respectively. His 200 meters time is the ninth fastest in the outdoor season, according to athletic.net.

Rockvale’s softball team picked up a much-needed district win Tuesday night, April 15, at Siegel with a 5-4 victory over the Lady Stars. Rockvale held off a seventh-inning rally that saw the Stars get within one as two runs came across on a dropped fly ball with the bases loaded. “We’ve been in every game but for some reason have had trouble in the seventh (inning),” Rockvale coach Perry Lyons said.

Stewarts Creek’s Ashleigh Williams was Rutherford County’s lone gold medal winner at the TSSAA state individual state wrestling championships this year. MAIN STREET PREPSThirteen Rutherford County wrestlers were named All-State by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association based on their performances at the TSSAA. Leading the way as Stewarts Creek’s Ashleigh Williams, who brought home the gold medal in the girls’ 235-pound class.

The sophomore left-hander went 9 innings and allowed just four hits, three runs (two earned and struck out 12 as the Blue Raiders snapped a seven-game losing skid.
