Competition was delayed for a day as rainstorms pushed through the area. It had then TSSAA scrambling and rescheduling, making fans, players and coaches wait for their first assignment on their respective fields.

PHOTO BY JIM DAVISThe Stewarts Creek softball team is back in Spring Fling for the third time in four seasons after defeating East Hamilton 4-2 for the second straight season at home in the sectional final. The Lady Red Hawks will open state tournament play on Tuesday, May 20 at 2 p.m. against Green Hill at Starplex.

PHOTO BY JIM DAVISThe Siegel boys soccer team won the District 8-AAA title by beating Riverdale 3-2 (5-4) in a game that was settled only after 100 minutes of game action and one round of penalty kicks. After two 10-minute overtime periods of no scoring Siegel knocked in all of its chances.

Oakland goalie Ryeden Chapman stops a Rockvale attempt at Oakland Friday night. JIM DAVISRockvale’s soccer team came out sluggish in the opening half at Oakland on Friday night but scored a pair of goals late in the second half in a period of three to four minutes to win 2-1. The Rockets closed out district play 6-1-1 and go to 11-4-1 overall.

JIM DAVISRiverdale’s Khalil Arman shocked Siegel with a goal with 20 seconds remaining as he raced past the midfield through two Stars defenders and put it past keeper Cristian Lara for a 1-0 Warrior victory and first district win over the season Friday night at Siegel.
