AbstractAttractive targeted sugar baits (ATSBs) have the potential to significantly reduce infective female Anopheles mosquitoes in arid areas, such as in Northern Mali. Malaria is epidemic in the north due to the limited viability of Anopheles species in the desert climate. The goal of this study was to determine of the effect of ATSB on the number of older female An. gambiae and on the number of sporozoite-positive females in villages in northern Mali. Villages were located in the north of Mali.

The mosquitoes (An. gambiae G3 strain) were maintained with cotton balls soaked with 8% sugar in an insectary at 27 °C, 80% humidity, and a 12-h day/night cycle. The 3–10-day-old female adults were fed with human blood (Continental Blood Bank, FL) using glass feeders (chemglass, NJ) for egg production. The blood engorged mosquitoes were maintained with 8% sugar. On day 2 post-bloodmeal, a filter paper soaked in a de-ionized-water beaker was placed into the cage to collect eggs.

AbstractWe aimed to investigate the genetic evidence that supports the repurposing of drugs already licensed or in clinical phases of development for prevention of type 1 diabetes. We obtained genome-wide association study summary statistics for the risk of type 1 diabetes, whole-blood gene expression and serum protein levels and investigated genetic polymorphisms near seven potential drug target genes.

AbstractAlthough statistical models for predicting type 1 diabetes risk have been developed, approaches that reveal the heterogeneity of the at-risk population by identifying clinically meaningful clusters are lacking. We aimed to identify and characterise clusters of islet autoantibody-positive individuals who share similar characteristics and type 1 diabetes risk.
