CORRESPONDENCE 02 July 2024 Despite increased discussions about gender bias in academia, progress in advancing women to senior positions remains elusive. An analysis of the academic publishing history of 95,130 PhD students who graduated from Dutch universities between 1990 and 2021 finds that the careers of women and members of minority ethnic groups are shorter, on average (A.
