    Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has stated that lower inflation and interest rates were some of the factors that have a potential to drive the country’s economic growth over the next three years. Godongwana’s assertion comes as the Reserve Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is scheduled to announce an interest rate decision next week Thursday. In the previous meeting, the MPC left the interest rates unchanged owing to the trade war introduced by US President Donald Trump.

    Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has revealed that the government is spending a whopping R1.2-billion a day to service debt, adding that this was impacting negatively on service delivery. Godongwana said this while delivering the 2025/2026 National Budget Speech on Wednesday. He explained that this meant that 22% of the revenue collected in the 2025/2026 financial year will go towards servicing sovereign debt.
