DeKALB – Those behind soon-to-be site of the city’s of DeKalb’s first marijuana dispensary were recently awarded $25,000 from the city for exterior improvements to the building, set to open this year. The grant, funded by tax increment financing (TIF) through the city’s Architectural Improvement Grant program, will help Canndid Spirit Too, LLC make exterior improvements to its building, at 305 E. Locust St., in DeKalb.

SYCAMORE – Local officials have mixed reactions to Illinois Supreme Court’s Tuesday decision upholding the constitutionality of the SAFE-T Act, priming Illinois to become the first state in the nation to implement a cashless bail system. The Illinois Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the constitutionality of a state law ending pretrial cash bail, ordering implementation in mid-September, reported The Associated Press.

A craft medical marijuana growing facility will be on the Streator City Council’s agenda Wednesday. The Plan Commission recommended approval of a special use permit for Llerem LLC to operate a craft marijuana growing facility at 118 Iowa Ave., the former peanut butter factory. Llerem is seeking only to grow marijuana, it would not be able to operate as a dispensary. Llerem would use roughly 25,000 square feet at the south end of the facility.

Gov. JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) launched $10 million in funding for the third round of the Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program meant to train statewide workers in the trades. The Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program provides training opportunities, expands the talent pipeline, and boosts diversity in the construction industry and building trades, according to a news release.

On Thursday, June 22, a fundraiser was held at The Lincoln Inn at Faranda’s for a former employee, Michael Volpe, whom had devastating medical issues and was forced to leave the job he loves. Michael would like to express his gratitude to the owner, Bill and employees of The Lincoln Inn at Faranda’s, as they went above and beyond and worked after hours to help make over $7,000 for Michael’s medical expenses and his move to WI to live with his kids and family there.
