The Starved Rock Country Community Foundation recently awarded a $1,000 community grant for the third annual “Rumblin’ on the River Showdown,” an elite livestock exhibition for youths ages 5 to 21. The 2025 show, “Where Champions Roar,” is expected to draw 250 to 300 exhibitors Saturday, June 28, and Sunday, June 29, to the La Salle County Fairgrounds, said Chris Utegg of Grand Ridge, who is Rumblin’ on the River president.

Freedom House celebrated Founder’s Day on Friday, May 9, marking the life and enduring legacy of Nedda Simon, who died last year on the agency’s 42nd anniversary. The organization reflects on the vision and dedication of a woman whose compassion sparked a movement for safety, dignity and justice in the region. Before 1983, the closest shelters for battered women were found in Peoria, Streator and the Quad Cities – far from reach for many rural residents.

The American Legion Auxiliary 125 will be meeting at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, at the Legion Post, 1549 W. Peru St., Princeton. The group will be putting together Memorial Day bags for at-home, nursing home and retirement home veterans. The group is looking for donations of items for these bags. AARP safety course to be held on IVCC campus May 12-13

AARP is hosting a driver safety program in Oglesby. The program will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 12, and Tuesday, May 13, at the Truck Driver’s Training Center on the Illinois Valley Community College‘s Oglesby campus. The AARP driver safety program is a classroom and online driver refresher course designed for drivers ages 50 or older. The program aims to help participants retain their driving competency.

On her application to become a Princeton police officer, she said she wanted to become an officer since she graduated Princeton High School in 2022 and she loves her hometown. “Taylor is a lifelong resident of Princeton,” Princeton Police Chief Tom Kammerer said at Monday’s City Council meeting. “We look forward to her having a long career of service in her hometown.”Wetsel was sworn into the department Monday.
