Big industry shrinks 3.5pc in March

ISLAMABAD: The Large-Scale Manufacturing (LSM) sector continued to show sluggish performance as production contracted by 3.51 per cent in February compared to the same month last year, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday. On a month-on-month basis, the LSM recorded a negative growth of 5.90pc. The negative growth was recorded despite a 1,000 basis points cut in the key interest rate to 12pc since the start of the current fiscal year.

ISLAMABAD: The National Price Monitoring Committee on Thursday showed concerns over the rising trend in perishable products and directed the Ministry of Food Security to develop a price control mechanism for poultry and promote the use of frozen chicken. ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue has endorsed the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) efforts to prevent black money in real estate and formed a sub-committee to review the proposed tax amendment bill with relevant stakeholders. The committee meeting, chaired by MNA Naveed Qamar, reviewed the Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill 2024 and appointed a sub-committee to resolve the issues between the FBR and stakeholders on the bill.

ISLAMABAD: The Large-Scale Manufacturing (LSM) sector contracted 1.25 per cent in the first five months of 2024-25, data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics showed on Wednesday. Since August 2024, the LSM has declined for two consecutive months. Domestic and global factors contributed to the downturn in FY24. The LSM grew positively from December 2023 to May 2024 before entering negative territory in June.
