    THE CAMOGIE ASSOCIATION will not appear before the Oireachtas Sports Committee over the ongoing ‘skorts’ row this week, chair Alan Kelly has said. Labour TD Kelly told The Journal that the committee will wait for the result of a vote – that seeks to put an end to the row over skorts – that the association is to hold during a Special Congress on 22 May. If the issue is not resolved following that vote, Kelly said he would call the association before the committee.

    THE FIRST STEP in a long path to develop a watersports campus in Dublin was approved today after contracts with companies in charge of designing and securing planning for the facility were signed. Dún Laoghaire Harbour will be the home to the space, which will serve as the hub for all watersports in Ireland and host world events. The design and architecture group Reddy A+U has been awarded the contract.

    VIKTOR ORBÁN HAS asked Micheál Martin not to “ruin the love story” between Ireland and Hungary after the Taoiseach was critical of the Prime Minister’s ‘unreasonable exploitation’ of his EU veto and backsliding on fundamental European rights. Speaking to Euronews, Martin said the Irish government is “very concerned about that, in Hungary, in terms of the undermining of the LGBTQI community” and other actions such as the banning of protests and restrictions on rights.

    POLICE IN THE Swiss city of Basel are investigating after a pro-Gaza protester made a slit-throat gesture during a parade taking place in the city as part of the opening events around the Eurovision Song Contest. The acts in this year’s competition took part in the parade as part of the ‘Turquoise Carpet’ opening event yesterday. In the aftermath of the event footage circulated of a pro-Palestine demonstrator allegedly making the gesture towards the Israeli delegation.
