Is it a row or just a tiff brewing between German and Israel? “…We are not like the Nazis,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the German Minister Annalena Baerbock when she visited Israel last Week.  The comment was part of an altercation between Baerbock and Netanyahu when the latter insisted there was no famine and Gaza but the German Foreign Minister kept pushing the point, at which time Netanyahu raised his voice at her.

As the Gaza war is about to enter its seventh month, the Palestinian death toll stands at well over 33,000, including over 12,000 children. Hundreds of schools and hospitals have been destroyed, with residents of Gaza deprived of food, which is used as a weapon of war, and the entire population rendered homeless. The assault by Israel is supported by Western powers who fully back Israel, ignoring the global public outcry.

Ranchi, 20 April: Real wages have barely risen in India since 2014-15, despite rapid GDP growth. The country’s social security system has also stagnated in this period. The lives of informal workers remain extremely precarious, especially in states like Jharkhand where casual employment is the main source of livelihood for millions. These are some of the findings presented by economists Jean Drèze and Reetika Khera at a press conference convened today by Loktantra Bachao 2024.
