SUGAR LAND, Texas (KTRK) -- Part of the Greatwood community in Sugar Land was closed off Wednesday, as an investigation continues into an incident in which police officers shot a suspect who was firing a weapon near a golf course. On Tuesday, at about 7:40 p.m., police said they received calls from neighbors about a man in his 20s or 30s who was shooting into the ground and up in the air. On Wednesday morning, officials got a clear view that several nearby homes were hit, too.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A 40-year-old man, Chester Lamar Grant, has been charged in his roommate's death after police say a woman was found stabbed inside their southeast Houston apartment last month. The video above is from the original report. The Houston Police Department said just before 4 p.m. on April 26, officers were called to an apartment complex on Goforth Street for a welfare check. When officers arrived and knocked on the door, no one responded, and they found blood on the back patio.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- After a more than weeklong trial, a man was found guilty by a jury of shooting his ex-wife inside her home on a morning in June 2021. The video above is from a previous report. Aaron Wright was convicted Wednesday of burglary with intent to commit other felonies and aggravated assault of a family member, resulting in serious bodily injury. During the sentencing phase on Thursday, Wright was given 50 years in prison on each count to be served concurrently.

BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A Clute family feels like they are being kept in the dark on criminal charges filed against their son who has mental disabilities. Peter is 17 years old but has the mentality of a 12-or 13-year-old, according to his father, Brandon Brown. Last Thursday, Peter was taken from his special education class at an alternative school by Brazosport ISD police to the Brazoria County Jail.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The former chief operating officer at HISD and a landscaping contractor have both been found guilty of conspiring in a bribery scheme. Brian Busby, who worked his way up from janitor to chief operating officer, and a landscaping contractor for the district, Anthony Hutchison, were charged with conspiracy, bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds, witness tampering and willfully filing false tax returns. Hutchison is facing an additional charge of wire fraud.
