Gupta family's infamous Saxonwold compound is set to be auctioned next month. The three buildings on the property on Saxonwold Dr will be sold separately while their furniture, which includes archaic items, will be sold as a lot on July 24. The public viewing will take place from June 30, then again on July 6, 13 and 19 between 10am and 4pm. The properties are part of Confidence Concept, which was in business rescue.

Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s office says his official car was shot at several times while he was being driven from a recent ANC NEC meeting in the east of Johannesburg in an incident suspected to be an attempt on his life. Sunday World has been informed that the incident happened along the N12 highway on March 30, when Mashatile and his entourage were driving home from the meeting which was held at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg.

The untouchable union leader who is allegedly wreaking havoc at Amatola Water Board in Eastern Cape, Victor Phumzile Totolo, has been found to be a former armed robbery convict who allegedly cooked his curriculum vitae to hide his criminal history. Totolo, a full-time shop steward for the South African Municipal Workers Union at Amatola Water Board, allegedly misrepresented facts on his CV and claimed that he was working at an engineering firm while he was in fact serving time in jail.

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) ambassador to South Africa, Binene Mulaja Fidèle, was sent packing three years on the job after it was established that he has a questionable South African permanent residency. A Sunday World investigation established that Fidèle was also v-listed (blacklisted) in South Africa for five years before he was nominated by Congolese President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo to be ambassador to South Africa on February 15, 2022.

Deputy President Paul Mashatile has been tipped off to WhatsApp messages involving two cabinet ministers and a senior NPA official discussing a plot to charge him. The ministers and NPA official, who are known to Sunday World, cannot be named for legal reasons. According the WhatsApp messages, the two ministers told the NPA official to charge Mashatile with perjury after a case was opened against him by a group of disgruntled ANC members in North West.
ANC ethics body clears Simelane of VBS crime

The ANC integrity commission (IC) has cleared Minister of Human Settlements Thembi Simelane of any criminal wrongdoing, as it could not find any conflict of interest after she acquired a loan from Gundo Wealth, a company implicated in the VBS scandal. The commission’s report, dated September 25, 2024, which Sunday World has seen, found that Simelane could not be linked to the R2 billion looting of VBS funds.

Top officials behind Prasa’s R2.6bn heist

Three senior officials at the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) are facing criminal investigations by the Hawks after they allegedly paid R2.6-billion to two sister companies without any contract or work done in 12 months. Some of the payments amounting to over R1-billion were made two days before Christmas last year. The police investigations were triggered by a written tip-off received from a whistleblower who did not want to be identified for safety reasons.
