AUSTIN (KXAN) - An organization that helps people deal with the loss of loved ones is now dealing with loss as well. In early May, thieves stole an A/C unit from outside The Christi Center on Hancock Drive in central Austin. "It is a little warm as you can see, the heat is intense," said Cathy Collins, Crime Victim Advocate with The Christi Center. Collins said she believes someone pulled up behind their largest building, which backs up to an empty lot, then cut and pulled the units off the wall.

AUSTIN (KXAN)- How much is the city spending overall on homeless camp clean up each year? It turns out that answer is more difficult to find out without a lot of digging. In 2021, Austin voters reinstated a camping ban that required enforcement of anyone camping in public spaces. Since then the city has spent millions of dollars and cleaned up millions of pounds of trash.

"Not only did it impact everyone's homes in the area, but it also drastically impacted the wildlife," said Jules Maron, executive director of Austin Wildlife Rescue. Austin Wildlife Rescue is a nonprofit organization that provides free medical help to animals that are brought in. But they do rely on donations to continue their work.

AUSTIN (KXAN) - As Central Texas continues to clean up after Wednesday's severe weather, the city held a press conference to talk about the response and more. One person died in a series of water rescues following a heavy storm Wednesday evening, according to Austin-Travis County EMS and the Austin Fire Department which responded to them. "Early last evening our city experienced a brief, but very powerful storm," said Austin City Manager TC Broadnax.
