President Jay Hartzell testified about diversity, equity and inclusion at a Texas Senate higher education subcommittee hearing on Tuesday. The hearing comes after Texas universities implemented Senate Bill 17 in January. Former President Donald Trump was elected the 47th president of the United States, securing over 270 electoral college votes early Wednesday morning, according to Decision Desk. Trump, who served as the 45th president from 2016 to 2020, will be the second president in history to serve two non-consecutive terms, after former President Grover Cleveland. Trump will also be the first president that is a convicted felon. He declared his victory at 1:30 a.m. at a Florida rally addressing his supporters.

University police officers arrested an individual on Sunday for driving while intoxicated after the individual crashed a vehicle on campus early that morning, according to a Tuesday police report. Officers responded to the collision at the intersection of 24th Street and Whitis Avenue at 7 a.m. on Sunday. The vehicle contained four passengers, including one minor. Neither the driver nor passengers are UT affiliated, UTPD confirmed.
