Oakland’s special election on April 15 is headlined by a mayoral race to finish out the term of former Mayor Sheng Thao, who was recalled by voters in November. One of the key reasons many families decide to pay that high price is to ensure their children are prepared for a rigorous college education — and to help them get admitted into the most selective universities.
