Along the Bristol Channel there are some stunning stretches of coastline, including Weston, Clevedon and Sandy Bay. But for people happy to venture a bit further, the stunning setting of Seatown in Dorset might still be close enough for a day trip.

If a popular musical gets a full house crowd of mostly young people on their feet singing and clapping I am all for it. Some people get sniffy about productions that are not Shakespeare or Austen, but if you saw the queue outside the Theatre Royal, Bath on Wednesday night for the opening of Cruel Intentions: the ‘90’s Musical it is proof of the pudding.

There is nothing like getting the job done yourself. Following lots of complaints about a filthy and overloaded bin left unemptied outside the Bishop’s Palace in Wells, local councillor Claire Sully and Lib Dem MP Tessa Munt rolled up their sleeves and emptied the bins themselves. Tessa Munt said on her Facebook page: “Overspilling bin at the end of the Moat Walk outside the Bishop's Palace in Wells was reported to me by locals last week.

A driver has claimed that the state of the roads in Somerset are as bad as they have ever been, One driver Greg West wrote into our sister print titles after his car went into a deep pot hole at the back of the rugby club in Wells. He said: “I have lived in Wells for 15 years and I haven’t seen local roads this bad before. Now that the tourist Industry is in full swing it is not very inviting for people visiting Somerset. When you hit one of these holes, it’s not so much a bump but a loud bang.

We all know Somerset is a magical place and now a local musician and storyteller has published the first in a series of fantasy stories inspired by the hills and dales of our lovely county. Alexander Paul Burton, who grew up in Catcott, has just published The Hollow Vale: Act I —the first in The Tharion Cycle , a new fantasy saga inspired by the landscapes, history, and folklore of Somerset.
