When John E. Olsson opened his engineering firm in downtown Lincoln’s Sharp Building, he hoped to grow a thriving business that would give him interesting work and support his family. That was 1956. The New York native and onetime sailor who had earned his mechanical engineering degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln focused his new business on municipal engineering. His first job was plotting a cemetery in Seward County.

Jeff Kirkpatrick, Lincoln's city attorney, will run for mayor. That makes three establishment candidates so far. Cyndy Lamm, a Republican; Leirion Gaylor Baird and Kirkpatrick, Democrats.
