A man will spend up to seven years in prison for shooting a gun through the ceiling of his Sydney garage and causing catastrophic injuries to his partner, who a court heard has forgiven him and now wants his support. Kamal El Jamal fired a bullet through a garage roof of a Condell Park home on January 12, 2023, which seriously injured his partner who was 37 years old at the time.

A former superyacht worker who admitted to kidnapping and intimidating his ex-girlfriend blamed a "perfect storm" of circumstances which led to his "reprehensible" behaviour, his lawyer told a Sydney court. Ethan Davis pleaded guilty to six charges on Wednesday, including kidnapping, using a carriage service to harass, intimidation, threatening to distribute an intimate image, using an offensive weapon and possessing MDMA.

For 90 years, a prestigious impromptu public speaking competition in NSW has been exclusive to high school boys, with minimal reason given as to why female students haven't been considered. Nearly a century later, a competition of equivalent standing has been launched for girls. In its inaugural year, 10 female students have been selected out of three heats to compete in the finals of the Dame Enid Lyons Oratory Competition this week.

Australian design icon Carla Zampatti continued to influence local designers at the brand's opening of Australian Fashion Week in Sydney on Monday night. The Carla Zampatti brand celebrated 60 years of its elegant designs with 60 looks featured on an outdoor runway at the Museum of Contemporary Art along Sydney's harbour. The designer launched the eponymous label in 1965, and released her first national collection five years later.
