1 INTRODUCTION Chronic stress, induced by persistent and overwhelming stressors over a long period of time, can negatively affect both physical (e.g., cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity) and mental (e.g., anxiety, depression) well-being (McEwen, 2017). Chronic stress can lead to “fight-or-flight” behavioural responses including unbalanced eating, physical inactivity, excessive smoking or drinking, and sleep disturbance (McEwen, 2008).
