The BBC licence fee is set to increase annually in line with inflation until 2027, as announced by the Government. This April will see a £5 rise, equivalent to an additional 42p per month, taking the fee to £174.50. The previous increase, which occurred last April, added £10.50 to the fee, making it £169.50. The licence fee had been frozen at £159 for two years prior to the increases, and had faced intense scrutiny from the previous Conservative government.
