ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The big talk of the town has been this tropical wave brewing near the Lesser Antilles. However, it's looking more and more like this disturbance could become a tropical depression as early as this weekend, according to the National Hurricane Center. As of Wednesday night, this tropical wave has a 60% chance of development over the next seven days.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — After strong thunderstorms moved through the region on Tuesday, the Tampa Bay area is facing another threat of severe weather on Wednesday. A tornado watch is currently in effect through 11 a.m. for much of the area. This time of year, cold fronts aren't quite as successful with making it all the way across the state. Spots along the coast could be closer to the upper 30s, near 40 degrees. Cold weather shelters across the Tampa Bay area will open their doors on Saturday evening.

This is all in part due to our very active El Nino pattern, which has sent a series of disturbances and cold fronts our way. This week, this weekend, and next week will be no exception. This Saturday, we're tracking a 70% chance of rain and potentially strong storms to head our way.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Have any plans for this upcoming weekend? If they're outdoors, you may want to keep an umbrella or raincoat handy with you. As a storm system is expected to develop in the Gulf on Friday, the latest long-range models continue to drift this system towards the west coast of Florida late Saturday, before crossing the state on Sunday. People should expect increasing rain chances to come along with that.
