Growing up, marriage was never a thing that felt like it was for me. I wanted kids, but worried about what people — and my parents — would think if I was a single mom. I'm now in my late 60s and my companion is my fluffy dog Poppy. I've had a great life as a travel writer exploring the world. I've been to more places than most people have ever dreamed of visiting. Andrew Lloyd Webber's updated Starlight Express is a spectacular show for Christmas or indeed anytime you want an energetic vibe. Loud music, strobe lighting, and lots of action with the performers all on roller skates. Starlight Express is all about trains, and carriages, and there's a love story too. Following a six-million-pound refurbishment programme and with new owners, the Albion in Freshwater Bay, on the lovely Isle of Wight, provides a much-needed stylish, dog-friendly seaside hotel to the South coast of the Isle of Wight. The highlight is the location of their restaurant the Rock which can't be beaten. With floor-to-ceiling windows on a promontory jetting out onto the bay, the sea appears to be just a few feet away.

Promoted as the place where decadence meets debauchery, Natasha Blair visits House of Gods to find out what it’s really like. A fun place to visit with a loved one or someone you want to get to know, the House of Gods is decorated for a seductive dalliance and is definitely a hotel for couples. From the outside, the building is a nondescript brown stone but stepping through the front door, the lighting is subdued and sultry. A cocktail bar/lounge is on either side of the reception desk.

On Romford Road by Andrew Sanger. Fiction but historical, with romance, is easy to read and a page turner. #andrewsanger
