ASHLAND — If Class C-1 No. 3 Lincoln Lutheran needed another win to cement itself as a state championship contender, it got one. And it was in impressive fashion on the road. The Warriors, behind a defense that held No. 4 Ashland-Greenwood to just eight points in the second half, defeated the Bluejays 47-28 on Thursday in Ashland. Nothing about the game felt as lopsided as the scoreline.

Jeter Worthley spent the last two years committed to playing college baseball at Michigan. But on Saturday, he announced a change of plans. The Lincoln East utility player took to social media to announce that he was committed to Nebraska. He becomes the 16th known member of the Huskers' 2025 recruiting class. Worthley's older brother, Jalen, is a left-handed pitcher for Nebraska. The two played together at Lincoln East in 2022. Jeter is a two-time Super-State selection.

This isn't necessarily the start to the season Nebraska soccer envisioned when it reloaded with several key contributors from last year's Elite Eight group. The Huskers are 3-3, one year after they nearly ran the table in nonconference play and then heated up late in the Big Ten schedule to win the regular-season title. Still, Nebraska has been through this kind of stretch before.

Nebraska soccer lost 3-0 to Duke on Thursday at Hibner Stadium. It was the worst home loss by scoring margin in over three years when the Huskers lost to No. 9 Penn State 3-0. The only two players left from that team are fifth-year seniors Reagan Raabe and Gwen Lane. Thursday’s loss was a humbling defeat — a defeat to one of the best teams in the loaded ACC — the second in the first week of the season after the Huskers began the season ranked No. 6 by the United Soccer Coaches.

Last season was difficult for Lincoln Southwest with a 3-6 finish in Grant Traynowicz's first season as the head coach for the Silver Hawks. It was a team that had a lot of turnover from 2022 when Southwest won eight games and made the playoff quarterfinals. Still, the group found a way to hang in games with a freshman quarterback and a plethora of underclassmen and inexperienced juniors.
