Political leaders have slammed reports a known neo-Nazi led the booing that disrupted an Indigenous Elder's Welcome to Country at an Anzac Day Dawn Service. Melbourne's Dawn Service was marred by booing from numerous attendees during Bunurong Elder Uncle Mark Brown's welcome ceremony. It was quickly drowned out by others who applauded the recognition of First Nations custodians. Victoria's Premier Jacinta Allen slammed the "beyond disappointing" conduct.

A five-year-old is fighting for his life after a parking meter fell on them in Western Australia’s largest regional city. Paramedics were called to Arthur St in Bunbury, about 170km south of Perth, shortly after 10.30am on Wednesday. Three crews were sent to the scene before the five-year-old boy was rushed to Bunbury Hospital as a priority one. The boy is understood to have later been taken by the Royal Flying Doctor Service to Perth’s Children’s Hospital, where he was in a critical condition.

One of Australia’s big four banks is doubling down on its prediction the Reserve Bank will cut the official cash rate next month after a drop in household spending. The Commonwealth Bank said on Wednesday its month household spending index fell by 1.8 per cent in December, despite Christmas and summer holidays. The slump was driven by an 8.3 per cent decline in spending on household goods after strong results following Black Friday sales in November.

The NSW health system is facing an “impending disaster” with more than half the state’s mental health workforce set to quit in less than a week, a peak body has warned. The Australian Salaried Medical Officers Federation NSW is pumping up pressure on the Minns government, saying more than 200 psychiatrists in the state had submitted their resignations.

A seaside council has struck back in a sneaky way after they said trees were poisoned “for the sake of a view” in south Sydney. The Bayside Council said on Friday it was investigating alleged poisoning and vandalism of trees alongside the foreshore. As the probe continued, the council said it had installed a shipping container to block the “desired view” of the ocean. Large signage would be put up to deter alleged vandals, with artists David Craig to use the container for a mural.
