    INTRODUCTION The prevalence of diabetes is reaching epidemic proportions. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) projects that nearly 1 in 8 adults, or 783 million, will be living with diabetes by 20451. A more recent estimate from 2022, based on 141 million participants across 1,108 population-representative studies, indicated that 828 million adults had diabetes, with an age-standardized prevalence of 13.9% for women and 14.3% for men2.
