3 1/1 The lights may have gone out, but VE Day 80 celebrations continue at Bury’s Fusilier Museum. Like hundreds of landmarks across the nation, the Moss Street museum was illuminated red, white, and blue for three nights from Tuesday. Commemorations continue on Saturday, May 10, with a VE Day Concert by the Band of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Lancashire.

4 1/1 A "wave" of nostalgia and enjoyment flooded a borough pub on VE80. Familes and regulars at Whitefield’s Frigate pub enjoyed an afternoon of celebration and fancy-dress fun as they marked the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. As well as providing the music, DJ Tracy Howarth fully entered into the spirit of the day by dressing as a 1940s glamour girl.

2 1/1 It may have cost her some toenails, but Lindsey O’Reilly has no regrets about running her first marathon for charity. Lindsey, 49, of Lowercroft, crossed the finish line of the London Marathon in an impressive four hours, 28 minutes and 34 seconds, despite the sweltering conditions on the day. Her efforts raised more than £5,500 for Margaret Haes Riding Centre in Holcombe, where she volunteers and works as an administrator.

A section of Bury New Road in Prestwich has been closed (Image: Newsquest) A section of a borough main road closed after an underground "void" was found across its full width is set to reopen tomorrow afternoon, Friday. Bury New Road in Prestwich, near Clifton Road, close to the Rudy’s Pizza branch and the Railway and Naturalist pub, was sealed off to all vehicles travelling in either direction on Tuesday afternoon.

2 1/1 Like the rest of the country, a Tottington woman will be celebrating today, Thursday. But for Marlene Holmes, it’s not only about the 80th anniversary of VE Day. For today is Marlene’s 80th birthday. She was the first baby born in Manchester after the announcement that the Second World War was over. Marlene, named after her father’s favourite actress, arrived in the world on May 8, 1945, at Crossley Maternity Hospital in Ancoats, weighing in at 7lb 1oz.
