A Maple Ridge senior whose little dog suffered a vicious attack, and she was also bitten and dragged, wants to warn her neighbours about a large, aggressive dog running off-leash. Donna Repo said she was walking her dog at Brickwood Park, on 225th Street in Maple Ridge, at about 6:30 a.m. on June 18, when a large, off-leash dog attacked. "The dog came flying down from Fraser Street like a locomotive, and started ripping my dog up," she said.

Amid torrential downpours Wednesday morning, Maple Ridge firefighters were called out to a fire that engulfed a structure near Golden Ears Provincial Park. The call came in just after 10 a.m. for a fire in the 24000-block of Fern Crescent. Turned out to be a shed in the back of a property. Emergency responders on scene said nobody was hurt. The cause of the blaze is still unknown. …more details as they come available.

Airport Day is coming up on Saturday, June 21 at the Pitt Meadows Regional Airport. The burgeoning airfield welcomes the community, and creates an opportunity for marketing the many businesses that are located at YPK. Thousands attended in 2024, and the free event will run from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. this year. This year the airport is putting a focus on the Canadian Museum of Flight.

This Thursday, June 19, the City of Pitt Meadows will host a Pride concert, bringing back the Vancouver band Queer as Funk, who have shown a talent for getting everyone up and dancing. The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. in Spirit Square, and will also feature the Rainbow Chorus of New Westminster. Queer as Funk is one of the few predominantly queer and non-binary bands in the province, and their shows are a statement of pride and identity.

Two bear cubs, orphaned when police shot their aggressive mother, have still not been found. The search for the little bears has been taken over by the Langley-based Critter Care Wildlife Society, which has set live capture traps in the Maple Ridge neighbourhood where the bears were last seen. Gail Martin, the founder and executive director of Critter Care, said the greatest threat to the baby bruins is likely a male bear.
