The UBC Research Forest in Maple Ridge is hosting a unique event they call a Wild Bar cocktail night. It's their second annual event at the Malcolm Knapp Research Forest (14500 Silver Valley Rd.), and it's set for Saturday, June 7. Those attending will be served drinks infused with the taste of the forest, courtesy of chef and sommelier Robin Kort. The evening will also include a hike in the woods, cocktail in hand, and education about edible plants in the region.

The Aero Club of B.C. is hosting a Father's Day event that will introduce kids to the joys of flying at the Pitt Meadows Airport. The club has booked a first-ever flight for more than 250 children on June 15 at YPK, according to organizer and pilot Chris Georgas, who serves as the education officer for the club. The free introductory flight is for youth aged eight ot 17, and is designed to inspire the next generation of aviators.

As a Maple Ridge man recovers from head injuries caused by a beating with a baseball bat, his apartment complex neighbours have expressed safety concerns over conflicts with the street population in their area. The victim of a bat attack on May 17 got himself home from the corner of 224th Street and Selkirk Avenue, to his apartment building at Selkirk Manor – directly across from the Ridge church. His building manager Sidney Johnson tended to the victim that night.

On Saturday night, May 24, a Maple Ridge man out walking his dog was attacked with a baseball bat, and suffered head injuries. The attack happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. in the neighbourhood of 224th Street and Selkirk Avenue. The man was hit multiple times on the head with a bat, but was able to make it home to his apartment, bleeding badly. He went to Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminister, and is now reported to be back home, with stitches in his head.
